Handmade in Cape Town
Our story
The brand
Every Bettél case is turned from Kiaat, a South African hardwood, sourced locally and chosen by hand. Most of our dials are wood too — white beech or American walnut, picked for the way each takes the light — while the Carbon Portal sets a disc of carbon fibre against the grain. Wood being what it is, every watch carries its own colour, so no two are identical.
The designer
Stuart Swan founded and designs Bettél. He came to watches through furniture and accessories, working with wood long before he made a timepiece from it — drawn to the way a single material can be both structural and beautiful.
Everything is made in our workshop in Muizenberg, Cape Town, and sold at the Watershed on the V&A Waterfront.
